Bodo Peace Agreement 2020: On his first visit to Assam after the signing of the Bodo Tripartite Peace Agreement in 2020, Prime Minister Modi announced a package of 1500 billion rupees for the state`s Bodo territories. So far, the agreement does not address the issue of “citizenship or work permit” for non-residential residences at the BTAD, which will be renamed Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). At a rally in Kokrajhar in Assam, Prime Minister Modi announced a package of 1500 billion rupees for the areas of Bodo. The central government`s package of measures is being used in the areas defined in the 2020 Bodo Peace Agreement to carry out development work in the region and improve infrastructure and employment opportunities. Signing the agreement would end the 50-year-old Bodo crisis. This is Prime Minister Modi`s first visit to Assam since the CAA protests last year. He had previously cancelled his summit with Japan`s Shinzo Abe, which was scheduled to take place in Guwahati in December 2019, due to protests. The Prime Minister had also omitted the opening ceremony of the Khelo India Youth Games in January 2020. Under the agreement, NDFB groups will leave the path of violence, surrender their weapons and dissolve their armed organizations within one month of signing the agreement. • The Indian government has so far signed three agreements with the Bodo tribes for 27 years.

Several clashes between extremist groups in Assam and the government have left hundreds dead.• The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) and the Indian government signed the first agreement in 1993. This agreement led to the creation of a Bodoland Autonomous Council with certain political powers.• The second Bodo Agreement was signed in 2003 between the Indian government and the extremist group Bodo Liberation Tigers (BLT). • The second agreement led to the formation of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) with four districts – Udalguri, Chirang, Baska and Kokrajhar. These areas are usually referred to as Bodoland Territorial Districts (BTAD). The Centre, the Assam government and the Bodo groups have signed an agreement for peace and development. This agreement has been described as the third agreement. According to the Union government, the signing of the agreement will put an end to the 50-year-old Bodo crisis. This agreement is a series of concerted efforts to meet the aspirations of the Bodo people with regard to their cultural identity, language, education and economic development and political aspirations. The Bodo Agreement offers political and economic benefits to the tribal areas without targeting a separate Bodoland State or a Territory of the Union.

The tripartite agreement was signed by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, leader of four NDFB groups, Satyendra Garg, JOINT Secretary of ABSU, Ministry of Home Affairs and Kumar Sanjay Krishna, Secretary General of Assam.
